My heartfelt condolences to Gordon's family through this terribly difficult time. Gordon was an amazing person that made everyone feel welcome and special. Always the first one to want to help and teach others. Anyone that was fortunate enough to meet Gordon knows that he was a wonderful person. He will truly be missed.

Gordon played such a big role in our lives for decades, built around a shared love of fine wine. Rob and I met him and Pam as we were starting a local Wine Tasting Society, I was writing the monthly Roanoke Times wine column, and we were about the start Roanoke Valley Wine Company. To us, Gordon was a fellow wine-lover, customer many times over, short-time employee when he was unexpectedly between jobs, and dear, dear friend. We shared Thanksgiving meals, numerous Christmas party weekends, and a memorable trip to Paris and touring French wineries. It was on the way back from France that he planted the seed of Pam joining our company, which was a joy for us for more than 20 years! Gordon's quirky, self-effacing and hilarious world view kept us, and all around us, rolling with laughter as he spun his stories of "a world gone mad". We still quote him often ("Golly, I'm in Paris, France!") and his time with us will forever make us smile.

My deepest sympathy to you, Pam, and to the rest of Gordon's family. Bob and I so enjoyed the company of both of you in the 'wine club' in Blacksburg many years ago, and I always loved the knowledge and wit of Gordon's columns in the paper. I hope Gordon and Bob are in some fine place cheerfully arguing the merits of Burgundy versus New World Pinot Noir! May you find peace in this new phase of your life.

My sincere condolences to Gordon's wife, family and friends. I had the pleasure of meeting Gordon through Allstate; I am based in N. Ireland and many years ago I travelled to Roanoke on a business trip, I was very young and nervous and Gordon was so kind and welcoming and made me feel right at home in the Roanoke office, answering the million questions I had with great knowledge and patience.
I am genuinely so sad to hear of his passing, he was one of life's true gentlemen and will be missed by all his colleagues here in N.Ireland. May he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to Pam and the rest of the family. Gordon was a wonderful human being. I had the pleasure of working with him at Allstate and always enjoyed our conversations. He was extremely intelligent and a hard worker who cares about his customer and peers. Gordon will be deeply missed.

Gordon and Pam Kendall were some of the first friends I made in Roanoke when I moved here in 1980. Pam worked at a candy store on the market, and I worked at Fallon Florist downtown. A common interest in crafting made us fast friends, and soon I was introduced to Gordon. We participated n the Roanoke Chili Cookoff together, and remained friends after I joined the Navy. Even though I left the valley for work reasons, Gordon and Pam and I stayed in touch.
Many years later, Gordon and Pam were instrumental in finding me a suitable house to move back to Roanoke. Gordon went to open houses while I still lived in Arkansas to see if any would fit my needs. He and Pam found me the perfect place, and helped me get moved in. It was in Wasena, within walking distance of the Kendall’s. Gordon would stop by on his almost daily walks around the neighborhood.
When Covid hit, I was in poor health due to other things, and was in the VA hospital for an extended time. Gordon came to my house every day to feed and care for my cats, and when one of them died while I was hospitalized, he gave Bogey full honors in my back yard. After I came home, he kept walking over to check on me and take care of the litter boxes and my trash bins. I could never have repaid him for the kindnesses and true friendship he showed me through the years.
Gordon was the ultimate cat daddy. I’ll never forget how he found a tiny injured kitten at the Ironto rest stop back when he was a traveling technician and took it to the vet to have its broken leg repaired. I called to ask how the new kitten, Spike, was doing. “Playing jai alai in the bathtub with his cast,” Gordon said. He never met a cat he couldn’t befriend.
Gordon also could strike up a conversation with anyone. If you went anywhere with G$, be prepared to wait a bit because he could wax poetically on about any subject. Whether it was pets or politics, wine or world events, he’d have an opinion. No matter what the subject, you’d always enjoy his company.
All those who knew him, are missing him.
