Obituary of Robert Christian

Robert "Bob" L. Christian, 61, of Callaway, Virginia, formerly of Hawthorne, New Jersey passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a three month battle with liver cancer. Bob leaves behind his wife Mary Helen, his three sons, Chris, Phillip, and Mark, his daughter-in-law Patty, his step-daughter Aqualine Suliali, his sisters Betty Horsley and Freda Singleton and in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, all loved, but too many to name. He was predeceased by his son Eric Christian and his step-daughter Pauline Suliali. Before his retirement in 2009, Bob had his own company for over thirty years and provided Information Technology Project Management Services across the United States and in twenty plus countries. After retirement, Bob devoted most of his free time volunteering with Apple Ridge Farm, (www.appleridge.org) and held the farm close to his heart until the day he died. When he was not volunteering at Apple Ridge Farm, he could be found at the Kirk Family YMCA exercising his body and his social skills. Services are private and are being provided by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Apple Ridge Farm, Jefferson Center, Suite 304, 541 Luck Avenue SW, Roanoke, VA 24016. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Apple Ridge Farm, 9230 Pine Forest Road NE, Copper Hill, Virginia 24079. Directions can be found at the website listed above. The family would like to thank the staff of 10 South for the care and compassion that was shown not only to Bob, but to his family during his three and a half week stay at Roanoke Memorial.
