Obituary of Catherine Barbour Nichols

Catherine B. Nichols 83, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 2, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Della Barbour; brother, Billy Barbour; sister, Betty Lunsford.

Catherine is survived by her children Mike Nichols and wife Kris, and Candi Nichols; sisters, JoAnne Griffin, and Dottie Webb and husband Ron; special loving niece Leigh Reynolds; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other extended family.

Catherine was a devoted and accomplished nurse for 37 years. She was a co-founder of Mobile Heart Unit with Waynesboro General Hospital. She served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross and the March of Dimes. She served as a nursing teacher with the State Department of Corrections. Catherine was also nominated for outstanding young women of America in the nursing field in 1977. She was a member of Snow Creek Christian Church and Penn Forest Christian Church.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Catherine’s care givers Dawn & Tracy for their devoted care.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Catherine’s name to the Roanoke Memorial School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship Fund. 903 South Jefferson Street Roanoke, Virginia 24016. Please indicate its for the Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Services will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Peters Creek Road Chapel with Rev. Tim Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service time. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road Roanoke, Virginia 24019. (540)366-0707.
