Obituary of Shirley Jane Nichols

Shirley Jane Nichols, 85, of Salem went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 30, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Gertrude Nester; daughter, Deborah Faye Spencer; daughter-in-law, Marie Annette Nichols; brothers, Ray Nester, Wayne Nester, Bill Nester, and James Edward Nester; and sisters, Gladys Dooley, Peggy Goff, Catherine Carter, and Betty Mae Goff.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Nichols; sons, Steve Nichols (Dawn) and Robert Nichols (Carrie); grandchildren, Steve (Dione), Genie (Jesse), Preston (Jessica), Brandon (Rachel), Charlie (Vanessa), Hannah (Donald), and Ben (Sarah); 16 great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Carter (Roy); sisters-in-law, Peggy Nester, Peggy Nester, Mary Nester, Frances, Kathy, Barbara, and Louise; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Charles and Shirley Nichols will held on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 1:00pm at CROSSPOINTE Church, 201 Burnt Chimney Rd. Wirtz, VA 24184.  A reception catered by church members will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can made to AFTD (Association for Frontal Temporal Degeneration).

The family wishes to give special thanks to Jessica Hutton who did a wonderful job as caregiver for mom over the last several years.
