Obituary of Eddie Mae Sprinkel Rader

Eddie Mae Sprinkel Rader, 89, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 20, 2022.  She was preceded by her parents, John and Pauline Rucker Sprinkel; husband, Robert S. Rader; son, Allen Rader; brother, Richard Sprinkel; sisters, Sue Markham, Betty Woody, and Nell Zaun; and brother-in-law, Earl Jones.

Mrs. Rader retired as a teacher with Roanoke City Public Schools after 35 years of service, and was a member of Vinton Baptist Church.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  Often described as the typical grandmother, she enjoyed cross stitch, sewing,  and making blankets and pillow cases for the grandchildren.  She was an avid reader and collector of ceramic roosters, birds and lighthouses.  These items along with her gallery of family photos made her home a warm inviting space to visit.  In addition to her sewing, reading and collecting, she loved to visit the beach, sit on the balcony, read a good book and watch the water.

Surviving is her son, Tim (Michelle) Rader; grandchildren, Eric (Hillary) Rader; Timothy Rader, Michael Rader; great grandson, Finn Rader; sister-in-law, Rachel Jones; brothers-in-law, Glen Markham and Sonny Zaun; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Vinton Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted Noon Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160  Peters Creek Road by Pastor Travis Russell.  Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery Vinton.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. Saturday until service time.  Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home.  540-366-0707
