Obituary of James Robert Blankenship

James “Jimmy” Robert Blankenship, 68, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022. He was a native of Roanoke and was the son of the late William and Helen McDaniel Blankenship. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Carl W. “Billy” Blankenship and his grandparents, Oscar and Minnie McDaniel.

Jimmy never met a stranger and he showed love and kindness to everyone he met. Jimmy had many interests, including go for walks, reading, fishing, animals, NASA, travel and history. Jimmy loved his family and his friends. He had an amazing way of staying on the sunny side of life.

He will be missed and remembered by his brothers, Thomas R. Nance, and Stratton Wayne St. Clair; sister, Sheila Robb; numerous nieces and nephews who were truly loved; special friends, Jill Fralin, Cindy Fries and many others.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022 in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road with Pastor Troy Mays officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
