Obituary of Virginia Bryant Pope

Please share a memory of Virginia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Virginia “Jenny” Pope, 92, of Roanoke County went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Jenny was a graduate of William Fleming High School. She furthered her education in Martinsville, VA with training in the x-ray field. She worked at Lewis Gale Hospital as an x-ray technician for several years before starting a family.

Jenny’s sweet loving spirit carried forward into her role as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

She was happily married to the love of her life, Billy Pope, for 68 years. They raised a family of three children in the Vinton area where she was active and supportive of their sports and musical activities.

As the children grew older, Jenny entered back into the workforce. She and Billy owned and operated B & R Auto Parts in Vinton. She enjoyed her role as bookkeeper and being her own boss. She worked until the age of 80.

Jenny dearly loved her six grandchildren. She had special nicknames for each of them. She enjoyed being a special part of their lives.

Jenny was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed collecting teddy bears, reading books and working jigsaw puzzles. She loved nature…flowers, trees, deer, squirrels. She especially loved watching and feeding the birds.

She was a member of Bonsack Baptist Church and lived in the Orchard Villas community. Jenny loved having her family with her every Sunday for lunch and playing Bingo. She was affectionately nicknamed the “Bingo Queen”.

Jenny was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy, and her parents, H.G. and Lucille Bryant.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Mike (Teresa) Pope, Gerald (Pam) Pope, and Jennie (Ronnie) Wood; her six precious grandchildren, Todd Pope, Melody Pope, Jason (Jessica) Pope, Brandon (Kristen) Pope, Brian (Caitlin) Wood, Laura (Jared) Feig; three great-granddaughters, Stella Pope, Adeline Wood and Emerson Wood; one additional great-grandchild is due in November –  Noah Pope; along with two special sisters, Patsy Ward and Bonnie Hale; brother, Billy Bryant; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022 in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road with Rev.
