Derek Lee Martin Sr., 44, of Salem, started his next journey on Friday, July 22, 2022. Derek was preceded in death by his father, Danny Martin Sr,; mother, Gloria Richardson; daughter, Destiny Elaine Martin; grandmother, Clara Fizer; and cousins, Rhonda Shelor and Scott Madison

Derek was very kind hearted as seen in his willingness to help others in need. He enjoyed his art and Rock music.

He is survived by his son, Derek Lee Martin Jr.; stepsons, John Jones and Chris Arnold; brother, Danny Martin Jr.; cousin, Lynda Miller and her husband Ray (and their chldren Ashley, Nick, Joe & Kalinn); aunt, Carol Shelor; niece, Oiya Martin; and best friend, Brian Reid.

His best friend Brian Reid said about Derek, "Selfless friend who took me in just the same as I did when I first met him. I have seen him grow from a crazy young man, He loves  his son. I know that much. Hard headed, hated ashtrays. I know those are just his character traits an things but yeah. Tattoo art.. Bela Lugosi movies. Black and white horror movies.  The album Danzig 2 the Lucifuge.  The whole album. Day in, day out. I will deeply miss him."

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Simpson Funeral Home (Peters Creek) at 4:00 pm on Friday, July 29, 2022. The family will receive friends beforehand from 3:00-4:00pm.
