Obituary of Pamela Martin Hart

Pamela Kaye Martin Hart “Pam” took her last earthly breath on 7/20/2022 in her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with Dementia and a brief battle with Leukemia. Pam was born on September 12, 1948 to Arthur and Virginia Ferris Martin. She unexpectedly lost her mother at a very young age. She was raised by her father and step mother, Irene Scott Martin. Pam was a 1966 graduate of Northside High School and a 1970 graduate of Madison College (now known as James Madison University). While at college she met her husband, Tony Hart. They were married on May 30, 1970. Together they lived in Harrisonburg, VA, Grottoes, VA, and Franklin, VA before returning to Roanoke in 1976. Pam worked for the City of Waynesboro Public Schools and the City of Franklin Public Schools as a librarian. She also worked at Union Camp in the particle manufacturing plant. Once back in Roanoke she worked for First National Exchange Bank (now Wells Fargo) for 18 years. She then retired to be a full-time caregiver for her Dad for 15 years. Fifty-Two years of marriage brought them 2 daughters, Sarah Marie Hart Fawley and Katie Rebecca Hart as well as 4 grandchildren, Landon Anthony Wood, Rebecca Noelle Fawley, Jacob Lee Fawley, and Elizabeth Kaye Fawley. Pam had a love for dogwood trees, hummingbirds, canning green beans, homegrown tomatoes with a pinch of salt, fried squash and onions, salmon cakes, watermelon with a pinch of salt, her jeans, t-shirts, and tennis shoes, specifically her “Nonnie” shirts. She loved watching crime shows while working word search puzzles. She loved watching Pittsburgh Steeler Quarterback Mason Rudolph play football every time he took the field. She enjoyed long conversations and shopping time with Sarah. She enjoyed watching Katie decorate cupcakes and cakes. Some of her catch phrases were “If you got any towels to fold bring to me and I’ll fold them” and “whatever Katie”. Family was important to Pam, especially since she lost her mother so young as well as her brother, Lance Corporal Gary A. Martin, who was killed in action in Vietnam.

Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Virginia Martin, her brother, Gary Martin, her step-mother Irene Scott, her father and mother in law, WJ and Charlotte Hart. Pam is survived by her husband, Tony Hart; daughters and son in law, Sarah and Jason Fawley (Mt Crawford, VA) and Katie Hart (Roanoke); grandchildren, Landon Wood (Roanoke), Rebecca, Jacob, and Elizabeth Fawley (Mt Crawford, VA); special friend of over 45 years, Susan Campbell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Peggy Hart, Randy Hart and Frances Mills, and Curtis Hart; honorary son, Ben Hopkins; Uncle and Aunt, JC and Peggy Webster; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of a formal visitation, the family will accept visitors at their home on a drop-in basis this week and next. A graveside service will be held on Saturday July 30, 2022 at 12 noon at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Salem, VA with Rev. Chris Kingery officiating.
