Obituary of Rachel Jane Holt Deel

Rachel Jane Holt Deel, 84, of Roanoke passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at the age of 84.  Rachel was born on January 24, 1938, in Rockland, Maine.  She married Jimmie Deel and raised her family in South Gardiner, Maine.  Rachel and her family moved to Roanoke in 1973.

Rachel was a homemaker and worked within the Foster Care System fostering numerous children in her home.  She and Jimmie raised five children of their own.

Surviving are her husband of nearly 68 years; Jimmie J. Deel, Sr., and her children,  Jimmie J. Deel, Jr. (Teresa) of Roanoke; Fred Deel, Sr. (Agnes) of Rocky Mount, Vicki Ferguson (Jack) of Roanoke, Sidney White (Ronnie) of Check, and Donna Huff (Danny) of Salem.  Rachel is also survived by her brother, Mark Holt (Gloria) of Portland, Maine; numerous cousins; nieces and nephews; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and her loving dog, Muffin.  

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Grace Holt; sisters, Margaret Smith, Connie Lark, and Priscilla Vance, grandson, Austin Huff; and granddaughter, Angel Crotty.

The entire Deel family would like to offer their gratitude to Good Samaritan Hospice for their continuous and thoughtful Care.  A special thanks to Anita Gibson, Jean Webber and Megan Puckett.  The family  would also like to extend their gratitude to Lisa Millirons and Brittney Gilley for their care during her extended illness.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Mark Washington.  Interment will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Funeral Home.  540 366 0707
