Obituary of Raymond Marco Dalton

Please share a memory of Raymond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Raymond Marco Dalton, 84, of Roanoke, VA spent his first day in heaven on May 24, 2022. Born on
March 12, 1938, to Edith Lewis and Kyle Dalton, Raymond grew up in Boissevain, WV and graduated
from Pocahontas High School in 1956 before serving our country in the U.S. Army and National Guard
and marrying the love of his life, Edna, on May 8, 1960.

He was the proud owner of Dalton Supply for more than 45 years, affectionately known as “the Rag Man”
to the countless customers who became dear friends. As a young adult, he began a fervent walk with the
Lord while attending First Church of God in Roanoke, mentoring the youth and teaching Sunday School.
He could often be found playing or listening to his favorite bluegrass or gospel music, fishing, and
traveling. Raymond loved bus trips, and he was able to visit 47 states! He never missed an opportunity to
minister to others, making an impact on everyone who crossed his path. He attended Shenandoah Baptist
Church faithfully for most of his senior years. Above all else, he was devoted to his family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him, Sarah & Burt Groseclose, parents and his
brother, Wayne Dalton, and he leaves behind a large and loving family who will miss him every day. He is
survived by his wife, Edna; his daughters, Debbie Dalton Checchio and Cindi Dalton Fralin (John);
grandchildren Jonathan Fralin (Nicole) and Jeffrey Fralin; two great-granddaughters Camryn Fralin and
Callie Fralin; his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Bill & Barbara Brady and Richard & Belvah Higgins; his
siblings, Mickey Wilson (Donna) of North Carolina, Ruth Dalton George (Bob) of Maryland; his uncle,
Gene Dalton (Ruth); his cousin, Patty Maze (Kevin); niece Joanne (Steven) Tabor; nephews Barry Brady
(Stephanie) & Aaron Brady (Tasha); and many 2nd and 3rd generation family members, including Paige,
Lindsay, Kayla (Keith) & family, Ryan (Katherine), Tristan, Skylar, Beau, Tyson, Ella, and Reece.

His family would like to extend a special thank you to the physicians, nurses, and staff at the Salem VA
Medical Center, where he received wonderful care on the dialysis unit. Raymond will always be
remembered for his gentle spirit, loyal love for his family, and his positive outlook on life even in the most
difficult circumstances. He was a man of steady faith and integrity who loved the Lord with all his heart
and treated everyone he encountered with the utmost respect and kindness – truly a man of character
who will be dearly missed.

The funeral services will be held at Simpson Funeral Home in Roanoke, VA. The visitation will be Friday,
May 27 from 6:00-8:00pm, and the funeral will take place on Saturday, May 28 at 11:00am, followed by a
