Obituary of Earl Denver Ashby

Please share a memory of Earl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Earl D. Ashby, 73, of Roanoke, went to have a joyous reunion with his son Jessee in Heaven on 05/22/2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Herman & Hazel Ashby; brother Doug Ashby; and granddaughter Cheyna Fore.

Earl is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 45 years Cathy Ashby; son, Andrew Ashby and wife Becky and their kids Bowen, Barrett, and Baylor Ashby; daughter, Crystal Mincey and husband Chris and her child Cassandra Ashby; siblings, Shirley Millner and husband Bill, Dane Ashby and wife Barbara, Randall Ashby and wife Renee, Steve Ashby and wife Angela, Sharon Ashby, and Algie Ashby; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Earl was a 25 year employee with Carter Machinery where he worked as a diesel mechanic on heavy equipment. In 1996, he suffered a traumatic brain injury and nearly lost his life.  His love of life and stubbornness gave his family 26 more years with him.  The most important thing to Earl was spending time at home with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A brief service will be held on Thursday, May 26th, 2022 at 5:00 PM at Parkway Church on the Mountain, 3645 Orange Ave NE, Roanoke, Virginia 24012.  A celebration of life will follow from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM with light refreshments being served.  Guests are asked to share a funny “Earl story” if they desire.
