I last visited Mrs. Vaughan about 3-4 years ago, I believe. She was still living in her home in Roanoke and had just had knee surgery. It was a pleasure to see her after many years. She was my 4th grade teacher at Mountain View Elementary School (60 odd years prior), was part of the church community I and my two sisters grew up in at Northview United Methodist and was next door neighbor to my aunt and uncle while she lived in Roanoke. So, she had presence in my life for many years even after I left Roanoke 50+ odd years ago. I am glad to have opportunity to post a remembrance of a woman I remember as a good teacher, good influence, and good neighbor. She was always very, very kind and gracious every time I encountered her. She made an impact on me as a youngster and also as adult with her bearing, her good will, and her gentle spirit. I hope her long life was a content one with many blessings of friends, family, and purpose. Best wishes to David and Gary and their families. You may not remember me, but I remember your mother with great fondness. Peace to you all.

Mrs. Vaughan was a neighbor of our family and she was my 4th grade teacher. What a sweet lady. She and Mr. Vaughan invited my parents (and their cat!!!) into their home the night of Roanokeās flood when they were blocked from leaving the neighborhood and their house was flooded. What great and generous neighbors.

Mrs. Helen Vaughan was blessed with a long life. Her kindness allowed her to love and care for so many along the way. Now, she leaves behind such beautiful memories to comfort those who were a part of her life's journey. May all look forward to the hope of continuing that journey with her when God's promises are fulfilled. Condolences to Helen's loved ones. Acts 24:15; Psalms 37:29
