Obituary of Betty Marlene Anderson Huffman
Betty “Marlene” Huffman went to be with her Lord on April 19, 2022, at the young age of 90. Marlene was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Paul Huffman Sr., her parents W.R. “Andy” and Lula Anderson and her beloved dog Pepper. She is survived by her son, Paul Huffman Jr. and wife Mariann and her daughter, Stacy Huffman Campbell, and husband Steve. Marlene also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Bryan, Jordan, and Hunter Huffman, Andy Campbell (Ashley), Caitlin Crespi (David) and Emily Wood (Philip) and 4 great-grandchildren: Elle and Sawyer Campbell, Sunday Huffman, and Tucker Crespi.
Marlene graduated from William Fleming High School and was a member of the Golden Colonels where she played basketball, cheered, and participated in many a high jinx on Williamson Rd. She trained as an x-ray technician before staying home to raise her family. She volunteered for many years with the Miss Virginia Pageant and loved playing games, particularly cards, where she was fiercely competitive in her bridge group. She loved to travel and spend time with her friends and family near the water - from water skiing on Philpot Lake and boating on Smith Mountain Lake to sunning on the gulf shores of Florida as a snowbird. She could always be found on football Saturdays cheering her Hokies with friends and family. She was proud to be part of the family who cast the Skipper cannons. She was an excellent cook and always had a pot of pinto beans (with a side of chow chow) on the stove. Her mashed potatoes and Christmas peanut butter candy have become family traditions.
Marlene was an active member of North Roanoke Baptist Church until her health began to fail in the last few years. She is certainly dancing with her loved ones in heaven today.
