Obituary of Janet Turner Harris

Janet “Jan” Turner Harris, 82, of Roanoke went home to be with her Lord and loved ones on Monday, March 7, 2022.  She was preceded by her husband of 52 years, Ross C. Harris, Jr.; sons, Ross C. Harris, III and his wife Nancy, Marvin C. Harris; and parents, Melvin and Elizabeth Turner.

Jan volunteered at the Catawba Hospital for ten years.  She loved to read, craft, travel and attend the Salem Red Sox baseball games.

Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Catherine and Steven Sowards; daughter-in-law, Marla Harris; granddaughter, Amber Sphar and her four sons; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members including special nieces, Rose Shelton and Beth Greene and her three daughters and son; special nephew, Perry Hale; special friend, Linda Stinchcomb; and her beautiful baby girl, Claire Kitty.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to First Church of the Brethren 2001 Carroll Avenue Roanoke, VA  24017.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 am Thursday, March 10, 2022 at First Church of the Brethren with Pastor Dava Hensley officiating.  The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road.
