Obituary of Emory Eugene Jones

Emory E. Jones, 77, of Salem, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 9, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Alice Jones; brothers, Charles “Buck” Jones and wife Sally, and John Paul Jones; sisters Mildred Lawrence and Evelyn "Sis" Sink.

Emory is survived by his wife Ruth D. Jones; children Emory “Jay” Jones, Jr. and wife Beth, Dawn Burch and husband Tim; grandchildren, Megan Younker and husband Ben, Ashley Waloven, Lucas Burch and Darla Jones and fiancé Joey Rotella; 9 great-grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews.

Emory was a founding member of the Catawba Mason’s Cove Rescue Squad. He was an employee at Carter Machinery and retired after 25 years on the job. He was known for serving his community as a coach for numerous rec league teams no matter the sport, many kids looking to him as a father figure. He also served as an ump for adult league softball. He was an avid hunter and fisher, but dedicated much of his time to his family.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Masons Cove Rescue Squad 3810 Bradshaw Road Salem VA 24153.

Services will be held Monday, February 14, 2022 at 2 pm at Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Road Chapel. Interment will follow services at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 13, 2022 from 3-5 pm. at Simpson Funeral Home.
