Obituary of Amanda Pagans
Amanda Pagans Hubbard, 44, of Salem passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Lord in Heaven on Sunday, January 30, 2022. She was born on May 4, 1977.
Amanda, or “Mandy” as known by those closest to her, was a graduate of Northside High School and went on to obtain degrees with honors in Government from the University of Virginia and Biology from Virginia Tech (but was always and forever a Hokie) . She accepted admission to Eastern Virginia Medical School but decided to pursue other paths where she could use her skills to help others.
Throughout her professional career, she made meaningful contributions to patients and clients in the Biotechnology industry. As an egg donor program coordinator (Alexandria), she gave couples the chance and hope to start families. She then was employed by the US Patent office (Alexandria) as a patent examiner in Biotech. She continued beyond that role in the private sector to further promote innovation with her work in intellectual property and the development of advanced technologies that helped people to see, hear and communicate better at Pixel Optics (Roanoke), CommScope (Hickory, NC) and most recently by Albemarle Corp. (Charlotte, NC) as a patent specialist and paralegal.
Mandy is survived by her husband Dan Hubbard and their beloved flat-coated retriever, Moss; by her parents Jim and Donna Pagans and their flat-coated retriever, Bentley; her sister Jennifer and Mike Cox, and her nieces (that Aunt Mandy loved as her own) Olivia and Lauren Cox. She is also survived by aunts and uncles Rebecca and Mike Brooks, Pat and Dewey Bryant, Rick and Lena Beason, and Bill and Pam Beason, as well as her cousins Emily and Andrew Brooks, Jason Bryant, Sara Long and Daniel, Adam, John, Jack and Mike Beason.
Mandy was preceded in death by her grandparents Russell and Doris Pagans and Bill and Venice Beason and Mandy’s pups Chloe, Barney, Emma, and Vinny all immensely special to her.
Amanda had immense faith and loved openly and generously – her family, her dogs, her friends and her Hokies! She loved music by Taylor Swift, attending VT football games, taking Disney trips to the parks and Disney cruises.
Amanda cared about so many things and so many people, but she also understood the devastating effect cancer has on those same people she cared most for. Amanda fought a courageous battle against colon cancer. During that battle she comforted her family and friends with such a loving and kind heart.
A celebration of Amanda's life will be held 2:00 pm Friday, February 4, 2022 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road with Pastor Jeff Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In her memory, and in lieu of gifts or flowers, please consider donating to colon cancer research, your favorite charity or make a pledge to her foundation, https://4amanda.org/, that is being established in her memory to help future cancer patients navigate the obstacles that Mandy and Dan faced.
