Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Bower

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Elizabeth Bower unexpectedly went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Mary was a graduate of William Fleming High School and National Business College. She was retired from General Electric after many years of service. She was a member of Shenandoah Baptist Church, which she loved dearly. She enjoyed going on trips, especially the beach. Mary was affectionately known as “MurMur” to all and everyone has said that she “was a beautiful, sweet lady”.

Mary was born in Roanoke and was the daughter of the late Richard Lee and Kathleen Elizabeth Byers Bower. She was also preceded in death by grandmothers, Florence Busnell Bower Long and Mary Agnes Byers, both of whom were Godly examples for Mary; sister, Deborah Bower Wiseman; special friend, Wayne Robertson.

Mary will be missed and remembered by her sisters, Joyce Bower Duncan and Linda Bower Trail (Mike); nephew, Tommy Duncan Jr. (Tonya); niece, Sherry Fizer (friend, Scott Beaman); great-nephews, Jake Fizer (Janee’), Ty Duncan and Chad Duncan; great-great-nieces, Avery and Haisley Fizer; special cousin, Brenda Harlow (Charlie); close friend of 50 years (more like a sister), Carolyn Roberson.

Funeral services will be private for the family only. Pastor A.C. Hollis, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Shenandoah Baptist Church, 6520 Williamson Rd., Roanoke, VA 24019.
