Obituary of James Henry Hostetter
James H. “Jim” Hostetter, 89, of Salem, passed away, Sunday, November 28, 2021. Jim was born on February 26, 1932, in Rockbridge, Virginia to parents Robert and Nervie Hostetter.
Jim was a barber by profession, he operated in five different barber shops in the area in his career. He was a proud veteran, serving his country in the United States Army. He was also a very accomplish musician preforming all around the Atlantic region singing and playing gospel music.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nervie Hostetter; brothers, Leonard Hostetter, Mason Hostetter, William Hostetter, and Earl Hostetter; sisters, Mary Higgins, Irene Clark, Ruby Higgins, Clessie Chaplin, and Kathleen Wallace; first wife, Elaine Hostetter; second wife Lawana Hostetter; daughter, Gail Hostetter.
Jim is survived by his children James Hostetter Jr. and wife Khursheed, Janie Ackerman and husband Chris, Daniel Hostetter, and Linda Hostetter. 5 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren; step-son Eddie Whiteside, Jr.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice or a church of your choice.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Pastor Earl Dodson officiating. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home (540)366-0707.
