Obituary of Elizabeth Adeline Dungan
Elizabeth “Libby” Adeline Garrett Riley Dungan of Roanoke, Virginia was born in Roanoke, VA on the 23rd of October 1922 and died on Saturday, November 20 2021 at the age of 99.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, James Garrett and Bessie Carmen Bilbo of Roanoke, VA, sister, Mary Ann Garrett, dear daughter Mary Bess Riley Jordan, husbands, Howard Vandergriff Riley and Patrick Dungan.
She is survived by her son Van Riley of Roanoke, VA; daughter, Charlotte Riley Carlson of Santa Rosa CA; her stepson, Billy and Nancy Coleman and family of St. Thomas, Ontario Canada, her sister, Betty Lou and Earl Atwood of Scottsdale, AZ and three grandchildren, Roxanne Riley of Jackson Hole, WY, Rachael Riley of Seattle, Washington and Beth Wray of Virginia Beach, VA and two great grandchildren, Megan Wray of Charlotte, NC and Mary Katherine Wray of New Bern, NC.
Libby was loved deeply by her family and close friends. She was an outstanding mother who always provided love, guidance, and passion in raising her children and grandchildren. She belonged to multiple bridge clubs, volunteered in her churches - The Second Presbyterian Church (as well as Oakland Baptist Church and Virginia Heights Church) and was active in her high school sorority, Phi Chi Psi Sorority. She was a shining star to her friends and was an extremely giving lady, with a contagious laugh. She worked in the Bookstore and Treasury office of Hollins University for decades and helped many students as a typing expert for master and doctorate papers. She was an excellent cook and entertainer, always opening her door to numerous friends and families for a great meal and holiday parties.
A Celebration of Libby’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 29, 2021 at Second Presbyterian Church, 214 Mountain Ave SW. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
