Obituary of Richard Lee Bond

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard Lee Bond of Hardy, Virginia joined our heavenly Father and his many loved ones who have gone before him on October 23, 2021.  He previously resided in Columbus, Ohio and Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Richard was a devout Christian who believed in the Lord and worshipped Him daily.  He was a member of Midland Baptist Church in Vinton.  He loved the Lord and did not miss an opportunity to give thanks for his many daily blessings.

Richard retired from Roadway Express in 1999 after 31 years as a driver.  He enjoyed his time on the road and never complained about the long trips he made driving at night. He celebrated three million safe driving miles at Roadway in 1998 where he received his own personal tractor trailer with his name on the door.  After he retired from Roadway, he joined Walmart in Chattanooga, TN and then transferred to the Roanoke Clearbrook store in 2010 where he continued with Walmart for 8 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmo M. Bond; his mother, Minnie May Bond; a sister, Joyce Bond Mays; and his daughter-in-law, Deborah Bond.  Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Simmons Bond, Hardy, VA; son, Timothy R. Bond of Chattanooga, TN; and daughter, Kimberly Mattox (Duke) of Chattanooga, TN  Also surviving are his sisters Elsie Hodges and Deborah Craddock; grandchildren Kendra Wallace (Sean), Ricky Bond, Tori Mattox, and Nick Mattox.  He is also survived by one great-grandson, Alexander, as well has his loyal K-9 companion, Nollie.

A special thanks to Pastor Roger Hogan and our Midland Baptist Church family for their prayers, phone calls and cards.  Also, thanks and appreciation to Good Samaritan Hospice for their compassionate service.
