Obituary of Rickey Wayne Yeatts
Rickey Wayne Yeatts, 66, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. He was born in Bedford, Virginia and was the son of the late William Coleman Yeatts and the late Doris Virginia Newman Yeatts. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie Golashovsky and Emily Kelly.
Rickey was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and later worked for the City of Roanoke for over twenty-six years as a Mechanical Technician II. He was an avid outdoorsman and worked as a roofer for several years. He loved playing his favorite numbers in the lottery, mostly the birthdays of his family. He was especially excited when one of the grandchildren was born on a double-digit day. He enjoyed the occasional trip to Cherokee, NC with Jo to play the slots.
Rickey will be missed and remembered by his daughters, Jennifer McDonald (Rodney) and Stephanie Marshall (Jim); grandchildren, Brooke, Logan, Doug, Faythe, Jayden, Kailee, Eryn, Lilly, Alivia and Aria; lifelong companion, Mary Jo Argabright; special nieces and nephews, Jeanette, Julie and Will; brother, Robert Yeatts; sisters, Debbie Tucker and Barbara Peters; numerous other nieces and nephews; as well as his fury companion, Thumper.
A service to celebrate Rickey’s life will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, October 24, 2021 in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd., with Rev. Steve Shackleford officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Kindred Hospice for the care and compassion that was shown to Rickey during his illness.
