To Carol, Derre and Sherre,
What a wonderful man your husband and Dad was to so many of us who had the pleasure to work for him at Kmart.
Yes he was stern but he taught us so much about doing it right. He showed you how he wanted it done and then he praised you for a job well done. It was not always easy. We believed he had wings because he could be up front one minute and the next standing right beside you.
It was a sad day when he retired. But he knew the ones who would tough it out and make it with new management and who would cave in. His love for animals won my heart too because I loved dogs as well. Then after he retired I had the great honor of working with him also at Dollar General. His work ethics never changed and he still had the boss skills there too.
Just know that so many of us will never forget his kindness to us and his love for others as well. Prayers are with you all and we are here for you if you need us.

Mr. Ritchey gave me my first public job when I was 16 years old and I worked for him until I married at 21. I can still remember our first conversation standing at the grill in Kmart. He asked me my name and what I wanted. I told him my name and that I heard he needed some help and I needed a job. He asked, "What can you do?" I replied, "I can do whatever you need me to!". He sent me to HR and hired me, and I was at work an hour later. I attended the meeting at Kmart when he announced he was retiring, and he made this statement: "Some of you will be glad to see me leave, but in 6 months, you will wish I was back" and according to my friends that still worked there, he was correct in that statement. He was one of a kind and my only regret is that I did not take the time to get to know him more as a person.
