Obituary of Paul T. Richardson

Paul Tyler Richardson, Sr., at the age of 90, went to be with the Lord in his Heavenly home on Friday, April 16, 2021, while surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Roanoke, on October 18, 1930, Paul was a resident of the Hollins area in Roanoke for over 50 years before moving to the Hanging Rock area several years ago. Paul and his two brothers, Clarence and Nelson Richardson were taught the plumbing trade by their father. The family worked together as heating and plumbing contractors for many years, owning Richardson Mechanical Contractors. After retiring from the family business, Paul went to work for the Botetourt Correctional Facility as a Maintenance Technician. Paul also taught the valuable trade of pluming to the inmates.

Paul was married to the love of his life, Eleanor, for 64 years before her passing in 2017. They had three children: Tyler, Martha, and Kyle.

Paul loved the Lord and was an active member of Melrose Baptist Church.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Angie and Claudia Richardson; two of his sisters, Evelyn Wygal and Louise Hudson; and his brother, Clarence Richardson.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Tyler Richardson (Donna), Martha Townsley, and Kyle Richardson (Beth); his sister, Gladys Gibson; brother, Nelson Richardson; as well as 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

We would like to thank Paul’s special caregiver of 2 years, Michelle “Mickey” Hall, who cared for him like he was family. In her own words, they were “partners in crime, like Bonnie and Clyde.” We would also like to acknowledge the nurses from Heartland Hospice for their care and medical assistance in his final days.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, April 23, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home. The funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home, interment will follow services at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home.
