Obituary of Virginia M. Holley

Please share a memory of Virginia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Virginia M. Holley, 98, of Vinton passed peacefully and went to be with the Lord on April 2, 2021. She was a loving wife, mother to 5 children and Nannie to 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was the last of her 9 siblings to pass.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie R. Holley; parents, Martha and Jesse Morris; sisters, Frances Houston, Susie Robinson and Goldie Stilwell; brothers, Paul McGuire, Royce Morris, Howard Morris, Johnny Morris, Warren Morris and Ralph Morris; daughter-in-law, Lenora Holley; sons-in-law, Luther McGhee and Donnie Dunbar; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She is survived by her children, Ray Holley, Barbara Dunbar, Wayne (Barbara) Holley, Tommy (Ruth) Holley and Janet McGhee.

She was “Nannie” to grandchildren, Rich (Laura), Debbie (George), Sandi, Jimmy (Ann), Brad, Chad, Pam (James), JT, Amber (Gavin), Doug (Kristi), Donnie; great-grandchildren, Katherine, Lillian, Penn, Kyle, Carleigh (David), Emma, Randi (John), Jesse, Bradley (Katlyn), Marissa, Ann Carole, Garrett, Candace (Mark), Megan, Jesse, Chandler, Jacob, Addie, Emma, Brecken, Michael (Kayna), Jeffrey, Holley; great-great-grandchildren, Noah, Annalynne, Harper, Kyra, Ashton, Gabriel and Micah. All were loved and very special to her.

Family gatherings were always a place of food, laughter and love. Nannie’s Pound Cake was a must! She was known far and wide for her delicious pound cake that was made with love (her secret ingredient).

Virginia was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Temple. She loved her church family, singing in the choir, working with the Awana kids, organizing dinners and going on senior trips which were enjoyed by all.

She was a worker all her life and had a helper’s heart. If there was a need, she was always there for you!

Virginia was an employee of General Electric and retired in 1985 with 28 years of service.

She lived independently and as long as her health permitted. She then made her home with Janet, occasionally visiting her other children for short periods of time.

God blessed Mom with 98 years – we love her dearly and will miss the love and advice she freely gave.

Mom, enjoy your heavenly home and seeing all that are waiting there to greet you.

Always loved, never forgotten, forever missed. Always in our hearts.
