Obituary of Darlene Barton Wingfield
Graveside services for Darlene B Wingfield, 79, a resident of Daleville, Virginia will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Jeter’s Chapel Mountain Cemetery, Bedford, Virginia.
Darlene went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 4, 2021 at home surrounded by family in Daleville, Virginia after a lengthy battle with vascular dementia. Darlene B. Wingfield was born May 30, 1941 at the foot of Jeter’s Chapel Mountain in the Stewartsville Community located in Bedford County, Virginia the daughter of Ernest and Lavonia Barton. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Wingfield on October 30, 1959 in Vinton, Virginia. He preceded her in death January 26, 2016. They were married for 55 wonderful years.
Darlene was a 1959 graduate of Stewartsville High School. She worked for ITT in Roanoke, Virginia and retired with over 25 years’ service. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching baseball, playing cards, doing puzzles, and reading.
Darlene professed the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church.
She is survived by her 2 sons and spouse; William “Keith” (Penny) Wingfield of Daleville, Virginia, and Allan Wingfield of New Castle, Virginia; 5 loving grandchildren Autumn (Scott) Lavering of Daleville, Virginia, Mary (Matt) Maynor of Lake Norman, North Carolina, Cora Beth (Steven) Bowler of Nashville, Tennessee, Benjamin Wingfield of Daleville, Virginia, Caleb Wingfield of Daleville, Virginia, and 6 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lettice (Barry) Hoal of Vinton, Virginia and Debbie Huff of Roanoke, Virginia; 2 brothers-in-law, Ed (Shirley) Wingfield of Vinton, Virginia, Jim (Cathy) Wingfield of New Castle, Virginia, 1 sister-in-law, Martha Wingfield of Vinton, Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, William Thomas Wingfield, a brother-in-law Robert Wingfield and a special cousin Jackie Moles.
The family would like to thank Regina with Carilion Hospice for her unwavering support during the last few months, Dr. Christian Klauss, and a special thank you to the Adult Care Center of Roanoke Valley in Salem for their love and care.
