Obituary of Harry Fredric Baden

Harry F. Baden, 91, of Danville, VA and formerly of Roanoke, VA and a longtime resident of Pine Plains, NY, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. He was born November 2, 1929 in Mineola, NY to the late Herman and Mimi (Gerdes) Baden.

On April 13,1952, he married his beloved wife, Joyce Healy who predeceased him on January 15,1998 after 45 years of marriage. 

Harry is survived by his son Paul, of Chester, VA, his son and daughter-in-law Eric & Diane of Ringold, VA, & his daughter and son-in-law Eileen & Sean McCarthy of Stanfordville, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren Pauline Saavedra, Carl Baden, Erica Baden, Eric Baden Jr., Paige Jennifer Hammock, Daniel McCarthy and Caitlin McCarthy as well as 9 great grandchildren and 3 nephews. His only sibling Edward predeceased him January 21 this year.

While living in Pine Plains, Harry volunteered with the Pine Plains Hose Company, was a member of Stissing Lodge #615 Free and Accepted Masons and an active member of the Pine Plains United Methodist Church. After a 31 year career with IBM, he was a volunteer tax preparer for H&R Block. In his later years, he enjoyed volunteering at his assisted living residence and watching NASCAR and Virginia Tech Hokies football. The family would also like to thank the staff of Brookdale Danville Piedmont for the exceptional care they’ve provided Dad for 15 years.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains, NY at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions are requested to St. Philip Evangelical Lutheran Church 8115 Williamson Rd. Roanoke, VA 24019. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home (540)366-0707.
