Obituary of Fred Leon Brinkley
Fred Leon Brinkley, 85, passed away due to complications of COVID-19 on January 19, 2021. Fred was born on August 9, 1935 in Williamsburg, Kentucky but spent much of his life in the Detroit, Michigan area. He graduated from Southeastern High School in Detroit and attended Ferris Institute (Big Rapids) and Wayne State University. He served in the US Army as an honor guard in The Old Guard (Army Ceremonial Unit) at Arlington National Cemetery for two years before marrying and moving to Toledo, Ohio. He and his wife (Peggy June Holcomb) had two sons: Paul Grant Brinkley and David Fred Brinkley. Fred was a very successful salesman for several different companies in several different states before retiring. He was also known for his mad ping-pong and pinochle skills! Most recently, he was living at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke, VA. Fred is survived by his two sons, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren as well as his brother and several nieces and nephews: Paul (Myrna), David (Diane), Jordan (Mary Ann), Lauren Hoover (JT), Victoria Taylor (Zack), Benjamin (Logan), Micah and Lucy Hoover, Stella Brinkley and Roger Brinkley. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Marilyn, and his former wife, Peggy. Plans for a Memorial Service have not yet been finalized. Arrangments by Simpson Funeral Home. (540)366-0707.
