Gwendolyn B. Griffith, 78, of Troutville passed away Monday, December 21, 2020.  She was born July 26, 1942 in Crewe Virginia a daughter of the late V. C. (Slim) and Rose Sydnor Bozman.

Gwen was a graduate of Crewe High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from James Madison University.  She worked as a professional educator having taught in Nottoway, Botetourt, Henrico and Chesterfield counties.  She also worked as a social worker in Nottoway County for several years.  She retired from Read Mountain Middle School in Botetourt County in 2003.

During her teaching years she was active in the Virginia Middle School Association, serving on the board and as state President. 

Gwen loved golf and served as President of the Brandermill and Botetourt Women’s Golf Associations’, as well as the Roanoke Valley Women’s Golf Association.  In addition to her love for golf, she loved to play Bridge; and was a member of two bridge clubs in the Roanoke Valley.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John; children, Robyn Griffith of Troutville; and Kevin Griffith and wife Sally of Staunton, Va; grandson, Jonathan of Staunton; brother, Vaughan Bozman and wife Pat of Pinnacle, NC; and her sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority (who have been great during her illness); nieces and other extended family members that she loved dearly.  She will be missed by all.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Fincastle Presbyterian Church or to James Madison University.

A service for the family will be held at Fincastle Presbyterian Church.  A reception to honor Gwen’s  memory will be scheduled for a future date after Covid 19 is no longer a threat.
