Albert Leon (Al) Sherman, 89, of Troutville, VA made his transition in his home on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.

He was born in Reading, PA, a son of the late Claude and Violet Madara Sherman on October 19, 1931.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Sherman of Reading, PA. He graduated from Reading High School, Reading PA and from Penn State Extension in Mechanical Engineering.

He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the US Marine Corps from 1950 to 1953.  He was also a member of Post 64 of the 29th Division Association.

Mr. Sherman was a devoted member of Roanoke Metaphysical Chapel having served as head usher.  His favorite hobby was his house plants and gardening, being blessed with an extremely good green thumb.  He had an affinity for cars and loved World War II history.

He was a loving and devoted husband to his surviving wife, LaRue for 54 years.  They were blessed to share the kind of love that most people dream of, a love that stays young through the years of growing old together.

Left to cherish wonderful memories are three children, Cindy Cavinder, Craig (Sandy) Sherman, and James (Roberta) Voigt.

He was known as Pee Paw to his granddaughters, Gwyndolyn Cavinder, Sylvana Cavinder, Kandyce Sherman, Chelsea (Justin)Vass; and great grandsons, Keegan and Kodie Bernard.

Also surviving is his sister, Linda (Karl) Allmendinger of Topton, PA with wonderful memories of traveling together to many states.

Others surviving are many nieces and nephews, extended family members, loved ones, special friends and church members.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Amedysis Hospice Care, former son-in-law, Clay Cavinder, and the Reverend F. Reed Brown.

Due to Covid 19 mandates a memorial service celebrating Al’s life will be scheduled and announced at a later date.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Roanoke Metaphysical Chapel 1488 Peters Creek Road Roanoke VA  24017.
