Obituary of Douglas L. McCain

Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Douglas “Doug” Leo McCain, 63, husband of Tonya Kelley McCain, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 after an extended illness. Known to each other as “MM” and “CG” they shared their lives together for 18 wonderful years. He was born in Marietta, Ohio and was the son of the late Alfred L. McCain and the late Betty A. Fryman McCain.

Doug had a career that spanned more than 46 years in the grocery industry. He was a simple man who some say had an “old soul”. He loved golf, his pond and maintaining his yard along with his flowers, as well as growing tomatoes every year with seeds from the previous year. He enjoyed western movies especially those with John Wayne.

In addition to his wife of 18 years, he is survived by two step-sons, whom he proudly called his step-boys, William “Chad” Folden and his wife Taissa, Charles “Evan” Folden and his wife Kristen; sisters, Sandy Hinchman (Roger), Connie Bortel (Steve); brother, Glen McCain; numerous nieces and nephews, and his very special furry companion Letty Mae aka “Ellie Mae”.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 25, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd., Roanoke.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 2 p.m. in the East Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta, Ohio, where he will be laid to rest beside his Dad and Mom.
