Mr. Ellis used to sell me pantyhose in each of my 5 stores in the Roanoke Valley. He always had a smile on his face, and honesty that was unquestionable. After I sold my stores I would see him in Sam's. The last time I saw him was probably early this year. We talked about his neighbor Charlie Van Lear, who had recently passed away. Charlie went to Martinsville High School with me, and was a great guy. Mr. Ellis told me that he had been blessed with good neighbors, and would miss Charlie. Then, Mr. Ellis would catch me up to date on David and Bobby, and share a laugh on one of his brothers. We will all miss Melvin, his wit, his wisdom, and his dedication to his values....archie
