Obituary of Janice Simms Deatherage

On Tuesday, August 11, 2020, Janice "Dottie" Simms Deatherage went to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a long battle with a heart condition and dementia.  She was preceded by her parents, Albert Simms and Bonnie Foster, and a sister, Francis Smith Alley, her soul mate and best friend.

Surviving are the love of her life and husband of 54 years, John "Johnny" Deatherage; daughter, Wendy Burzanko and partner, Rhonda McCray, son, John Christopher (Robin) Deatherage; grandchildren, Lexie (Travis) Carter, Allee Burzanko and fiance Damian Creasy; Jamie Burzanko and Rachel Deatherage;  great grandchildren, Braelynn Creasy, and Colton James Creasy; sisters, Tenna (Jeff) Moore, Barbara (Steve) Shipton; brothers, Tommy Simms, Charles (Ann) Simms, David (Norma) Simms; sister-in-law, Lucy (Dean) Blevins and her daughters, Gayle (Paul) McWhorter, Sabrina (Pete) Briggs; special aunt, Ruthie (Jim) Bishop; special cousin, Dianne (Gerald) Atkins; special friends; Mary Alice (Elmer) Gibson, Darlene (David) Bocock, Sharron Zimmerman, and Jeany (Bill) Green; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank;  Medi Home Hospice nurse, Lorie; the staff at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital; Kathy Jennings, Scott Arnold, John Smetdji, Bryan Bollinger and Denise Dillingham;  and a very special thanks to the family and staff at Shenandoah Baptist Church and founding Pastor Dr. Robert L. (Bob) Alderman.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Camp Eagle C/O Shenandoah Baptist Church P O Box 7010 Roanoke, VA  24019.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2020 at Simpson Funeral Home by Pastor Mark Hopkins.  Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home.  540366-0707
