There was only one "Miss Kitty". I met Kitty, and Cecil around 1967, through her sons, Mike and Steve. We were camping at Cave Mountain Lake. Us three boys became as thick as thieves. Kitty and Cecil were the kindest, sweetest people I ever had the privilege to know. While camping, Cecil occasionally had to return to work while Kitty, Mike and Steve stayed at the campsite.
Kitty loved to drive us boys around Rockbridge County in search of good fishin' holes. We didn't always have good luck, but thanks to Kitty we always had great fun.
Once, Kitty drove the 3 of us over to North Creek about 20 miles South of the campgrounds where we were staying. We wanted to catch trout, heard about a deep hole in North Creek where [allegedly] big rainbow trout awaited us. We fished for a good hour before giving up on fishing, and focusing on cooling off.
None of us boys brought a bathing suit so we peeled down to our scivies to swim the fishin' hole. Miss Kitty just shook her head, and allowed us to have our fun.
I really miss those days; growing up in the 60s was the greatest time to be a kid.
I will miss you Kitty, as I did Cecil when he passed. Love & strength to the Virts family. Love you all. Randy Robertson.
