Mr Forbes was a excellent teacher a man of many hobbies he was a role model in my life he always told me the way to succeeding in SRHS and he also believed in my success and my academics I will never forget about when I was in the cafeteria for lunch and I would go over and sit with him and talk about stuff that would help me succeed in my life mainly just trying to get my grades up to play football because sports is all I known of my whole life and also just talking about how he is doing and where he wants to be years down after retirement and he always cared for me in someways that I can’t even explain because his love was comfort and his words were wisdom and so for that he will never be lost in my heart nor my mind. Sincerely Preston Howard Tucker

My heart aches for the Forbes family. Sending thoughts and prayers. May the many precious memories provide you with comfort in the days and weeks ahead. David was such a sweet person. I have fond memories of our friendship as teenagers riding bikes and hanging out summers when he was visiting his grandparents on Cleveland Ave. Heaven gained a special angel.

Mr. Forbes was a wonderful man and a wonderful teacher, one of the people who made the world a better place. Whenever I ran into him, he would ask me about my son, and ask me if my son was still playing guitar and writing music. He genuinely cared about the kids at SR, and they all loved him. I am saddened by his passing to put it mildly, and it is heartbreaking that we cannot pay our respects at this time. My sincere condolences to Mr. Forbes’ loved ones.

Coach Forbes had such a huge impact on me and my teammates since middle school. He and Coach Jones taught me so much on and off the basketball court and played such a big role in my life growing up. He taught me to love the game of basketball. Between AAU and Staunton River basketball, I have so many fond memories of him and his dedication to us. He made basketball fun and showed me how hard work can pay off. I know he will be truly missed by all. ❤️
My thoughts and prayers are with his family,

To all the loved ones of Mr. Dave. I want to express my deepest sympathy to everyone of you! Dave was everything you said in the obituary, and more! There was never a time he did not come in to our office with a HUGE smile and a positive message. I did not know him long, but for the 5 1/2 years I have been at the School Board Office he was a bright light! May you find peace in knowing that he was a very special man to us all. God Bless You!

I got to know Dave when he taught with my husband, Craig, at Staunton River Middle School. Dave was a new teacher at that point and filled with enthusiasm. Years later, he did a few guest lectures for my student teachers when I was Director of Education Programs at Hollins University. He never lost that enthusiasm for teaching, for his students, and for helping others. Dave will be missed by so many but his contributions will not be forgotten. Craig and I are so sorry for the family's loss. --Kristi Fowler

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of David. Although I only remember him as being an incredible cross country runner who regularly attended Thrasher Memorial Church, I did know his parents Mattie and Doug Forbes and his brother Doug. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the family, his wife and his children especially. May GOD guide you through this painful process of death on earth and give you grace. We were so saddened to hear of the passing of Dave Forbes. He meant so much to our family as a friend and as a mentor to our children. He was a Christian man who loved his family and loved life. He had a passion for basketball and lived to teach the game to our SR girls. Life is about relationships and the positive impacts we have on those around us. Dave had that figured out and he practiced it every day.
Dave, thank you for the impact you had on all of us and the difference you made in the lives of the SR youth. You will be missed but you will forever be in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your beautiful family.

I was fortunate enough to work with Dave while teaching at SRMS. He was a tireless advocate for his students and one of the nicest people I have ever met. When I began working at the middle school, it was Dave along with Mr. Roberts who made me feel as if I belonged there. Many a morning he came into my room with the poofs from Jerry's, and would sit and chat for a while.
His devotion to the girls basketball program was absolute and he placed no limit on the time he allotted to supervise, train, and encourage his teams. We kept in touch after he left the middle school and I was grateful to have have known him. He will remain in the hearts of all who knew him, and will always be remembered fondly.

A light has gone out, and it saddens me so much. I remember the little red-headed little boy who kept us on our toes - who decided to spread a bottle of hand lotion on the guest room bed and carpet, then clean it up with powder! He said it was worth the spanking he got! As a man, I did not see him often, but it was at his folks' home and always with a smile and great stories to tell. David will be missed by his family, his neighbors, his church family, and all he had contact with. Be at peace, cousin. I'll see you again one day.

Caroline & girls & families -
Just don't have the words to express how very sorry I am to hear of Dave's passing! As the girls have all grown up and spread their wings - near and far in both our families, I can't help but think back to all those years ago - the sleepovers, the shared summers with Claudine, camp adventures, Jynxie, swim meets, and all the basketball. I can't help but think of all the lives Dave touched over the years, not just in his coaching life, but as a man of God, and one who always intuitively knew who needed a big smile, some kind words or a hug. We're so sorry for your loss, and here if there's anything you need. Much love to you Caroline and the girls too ! Susan, Mark, Mollie & Erin!
