Obituary of Carole Lee Lichtenstein

Carole Lee Sandifer Lichtenstein passed on Friday evening February 21, 2020 in Roanoke, VA from natural causes at the age of 80. Carole was born November 5, 1939 in Lynchburg, VA to her parents, Erma Estep Sandifer and Robert Carlton Sandifer. She was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and went on to marry Stanley Lichtenstein in 1960. She began her career in architectural drafting at Wiley & Wilson in Lynchburg. After moving to Roanoke, Carole became an apprentice at the local architectural firm of Hayes Seay Mattern & Mattern working in the bridge department for structural steel and continued her career at Smithey and Boynton Architects & Engineers. She worked as a draftsman for more than thirty years before retiring due to health complications. She was an avid reader and enjoyed mystery and suspense novels as well as westerns. Her most recent favorite authors were James Patterson and Lisa Jackson. She also loved movies and classic TV shows as well as daytime soaps and game shows which kept her entertained throughout her residency at Raleigh Court Health and Rehab Center. The family would like to thank the staff of both Raleigh Court and Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving and professional care. Carole was preceded in death by her parents and her eldest son, Robert Nathan Lichtenstein. She is survived by her son Sylvan David Lichtenstein of Boones Mill, VA and daughter-in-law Stacy; daughter, Susan Lichtenstein Roberts of Roanoke, VA and husband Tommie; son Michael Carlton Lichtenstein of Salem, VA and wife Cindy. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, her brother, Steve Sandifer of Vienna, WV and sister, Vicki Sandifer of Elon, VA in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday February 25th 2020 at the Amos Family Cemetery in Roanoke County/Boones Mill, VA at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Michael Duval All are welcome to attend and celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Carole’s name to the charity of your choice.
