Doug & Scott.
I was saddened to learn of the passing of your Mom.I know there are so many good memories to recall. Mrs Zirkle was always gracious to me me when I would be at Lake Junaluska visiting. It does not seem that long ago even though it has been over 50 years. My sympathy to the whole Zirkle family.
Your Old Classmate,
Tim Shook

I got to know Penny because she was a friend of my late father (Garnett). She was a happy person who I could tell cared for others. I recently visited her in her home and she gave me a book that was written by Franklin. She was playing the organ when I arrived. She was a devoted friend to my father and she made a positive difference in his life by her friendly phone calls. She talked to me about her family and was so proud of all of them. I will miss her too.

I first got to know Penny and Franklin through family history. I toured Franklin around Fulks Run one time while looking for land that had been owned by the Brocks in the early 1740s. We also ran into each other at times at Fulks Run Grocery. Once I started having Brocks Gap Heritage Day, he and Penny were regulars. That's when I got to know Penny, even though she graduated from Broadway High School with my Dad.
I enjoyed getting to know Penny and loved her musical and poetry numbers. She often shared her poetry with me; I am in awe of people who can write poetry. When she spent the night at Fulks Run before a reunion (2016 perhaps?), I got to hear her on the piano and on the pump organ. She was very talented musically.
I'm glad I had the privilege of knowing Penny. She will be missed by all who knew her.
