Obituary of Peggie Duncan Watkins

Peggie Duncan Watkins, 87, of Roanoke passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019.  She was preceded by her first husband, William E. Duncan;  her second husband, Robert L. Watkins; two grandchildren, Rhonda Rawlins and Jerry Turner; and two step children, Richard Watkins, and Melissa Watkins Morris.

Grammie was an active longtime member of Goodwin Memorial United Methodist Church.  She served as the president of the United Methodist Women for many years, sang in the choir, and held the position as church secretary. She retired from the Virginia State Police and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and church were the most important aspects of "Grammies" life.  She loved making memories with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.  She especially enjoyed family trips to the beach, Pigeon Forge, and even simple gatherings with friends.  She loved to camp in the family motorhome.  She was always accompanied by her fur babies, Wheezy and Copper.

Surviving are her children, James E. (Linda) Duncan, Denise A. Duncan, and Robert W. (Rene') Duncan; step/son, Melvin "Doug" (Gina) Watkins; grandchildren, Megan Duncan, Brenden (Danielle) Duncan, Zachary Duncan, Leigh (Rami) Danil, Vanessa (Jamie) Hooks, and Travis Turner; great grandchildren, Rafael Alonso, III, Mia and Owen Duncan, Chandler Blackstock, Ava Danil, James, Lilly and Noah Hooks, and Margo Byrne; six step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren; and a brother, Donald K. Flinchum.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Goodwin Memorial United Methodist Church C/O Karen Downor 3818 Ellen Drive Salem, Va  24153.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Charles DeHart.  A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, Decmeber 4, 2019 in Highland Memorial Gardens,  Dublin, Virginia.  The familiy will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home.  366-0707
