Paul Montgomery Clayman, 94, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019. Paul was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Esther Clayman; wife, Mary Ann Clayman; daughter, Bette Clayman Carter; brother and his wife Harry and Ruth Clayman; son-in-law, Kelley Arnold; in-laws Lucian and Josie Brooks; niece Barbara Callahan. He is survived by his children, Steven Clayman (Libby), Brenda Gump (Terry), Joni Poff (Tracy), and Lori Arnold; grandchildren, Marijo Mitchell, Samantha Kleff (Charles), Brooke Mitchell (John), Joshua Bishop (Kathryn), Zachary Clayman (Sammie), Kendall Clayman, Taylor Poff, and Seth Arnold; great-grandchildren, Jessica Vest (Jordan), Jacob Morris, Kylie Altizer, Grant Clayman, Kent Clayman, Troy Paschal, Bailah Shaver, Isaac Paul Bishop, Natasha Kleff; great-great grandchildren, Briar Vest, Carson Vest; nephews, Michael Clayman and Alan Clayman; special friend, Paul Reavis.

 

Paul was the most generous and kind person there ever was. He loved beer, a good Bloody Mary, and all things sports, especially the New York Yankees and VMI. Paul attended Jefferson High School and continued his education at Fork Union Military Academy where he graduated in 1943. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Navy where he served his country.  When he returned to Roanoke, he worked for and eventually became owner of Blue Ridge Optical Company.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Paul's name to the Alzheimer’s Association. 

 

The family will have a celebration of life on January 11, 2020. The time and place will be announced at a later time. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. (540)366-0707.
