I knew Master Sergeant Spangler from playing tennis at Northside. We played William Fleming twice a season, and he was a great coach there and I also remember him running the conference playoffs each season. On a personal level, even though I played on a different team, he always sought me out because we shared the same last name (no relation that I’m aware of). He was a good man, served his country with distinction, and his community. My sincere condolences to his family.

Dave Jr. and Family,
My deepest sympathies to all of you. I will always remember Sarge with a huge smile and something nice to say. We worked together at Fleming for many years, and I know he helped make many of the students become better adults. He will be missed.

My deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the family. I worked at Fleming for 10 years in Camper Hall where ROTC was based. Sgt Spangler was always coming in the office with a huge smile or something funny to say. He truly loved his students, was kind and always willing to help. He was a great role model to all. His legacy will live on through his students, friends and beloved family. God Bless!

He was my tennis coach for a couple of years, but he was so much more than that to so many people. He was a great example of a man, father, and human being and made such an impact on this world. I am not sure if he will ever know all the lives he changed for the better.
Sarge, thank you for being an exemplary human being and touching the lives of so many people. Along with your loving family, we are truly mourning your loss.

So sorry to hear this! He was my drill instructor (ROTC) at Fleming from 1985-1987 and was the nicest man. He had a good sense of humor also. He will truly be missed! Praying for his family during this difficult time!

Man this is a hard pill to swallow! MSgt Spangler taught me and my mom and was literally one of the best teachers and mentoring adults I’ve ever encountered. He is one of the main reasons I joined the USAF! I have served for almost 18 years and I have him to thank for it!
Side story: I remember when he went to the dealership and bought his convertible white camero. All of us were trying to see it! You could see that twinkle in his eye!
He had an impact on so many people! He will be terribly missed!

Sgt Spangler was one of my favorite teachers. In Highschool I was in his ROTC class. If students hated to go to classes, Sgt Spangler class wasnt one of them.He showed such much compassion for his students.Always with a smile. His personality was contagious. He really Loved to teach as well his students. When we would go on field trips, if a student didnt have money, without hesitation,He would reach in his pocket to make sure his students were ok.He was so inspiring, motivating his students, Sgt Spangler will be very much missed.Thank you for your service Sgt Spangler.Condolences to your wife and family

I know I will not be the only person to say this, but my life would have definitely took a different path if not for MSgt Spangler. His motivation, enthusiasm, and love for the Air Force had a vast influence on my decision to join the service after high school. I followed his footsteps and now I am also a 21 year retired MSgt. Thank you for the great stories and advice over the years. You will be missed Sarge. May God bless you and your family.

I hated ROTC. I only took the class because my boyfriend was in it at the time, but some of my happiest high school memories are of the time I spent in SGT Spangler's class.
He was truly one of my favorite people.

Oh my. My heart is spinning. I was one of his students of ROTC back in '80-'83. He was a very good teacher. Taught me alot about respect and honor. He will always be a hero and a star in my heart. Praying for the family. I'm proud to have known him.
