Obituary of Harriet A. Bennett

Please share a memory of Harriet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Sunday, September 15th, 2019, Harriet Nygaard Bennett, loving mother and Mimi to six children, 27 grand-children and 12 great grand-children, passed away at the age of 83.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts to parents Anna Andersen and Hjalmar Nygaard on July 12, 1934, Harriet attended Christian High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, graduating in 1954. She married Jack Bennet on August 4th, 1956, and raised six children-  Terri, Sandy, Norman, Karen, Kristen and Eric in Reading, Massachusetts.

Harriet and Jack built their family around love and faith, as christ was the center of their life. They both had a passion for arts and crafts, with Jack's love of woodworking and Harriet's love for quilting, knitting and crocheting- a passion she passed on to many of her children. The two relocated to Chesapeake, Virginia after their kids had grown and moved on to start their own families, where they would become members of the Tabernacle Baptist church in Virginia Beach. Both were known for their sharp whit, and Harriet could always be found laughing amongst her family and dear friends.

Jack preceded Harriet in passing to be with the lord, and Harriet now joins him. She is survived by all six children and their families. Her family and friends take solace from the fact that they know they’ll all have a lifetime of prayers from Mimi and Papa from heaven.
