With much regret, we hear of Nan Rae's passing. It was everyone's hope to see her at our 60th reunion this year. What a fine person she was, and smart! Sincere condolences to all of the family.

May you find comfort and strength in knowing that God loves you and he cares for you, through talking to God in prayer, and from God's Word, the Bible. Psalm 36:7 says: "How precious your loyal love is, O God! In the shadow of your wings, the sons of men take refuge." Nahum 1:7; God is "a stronghold in the day of distress. He is mindful of ["takes care of"] those seeking refuge in him." Please accept my sincere condolences. Always remember God loves you and he cares for you! (Psalm 34:18; Psalm 147:3)

Curtis,
It was with profound sadness that I read about Nan's passing. She was both inspired and inspiring. Nan was so very talented with her pottery; I will always treasure the 2 pieces of Raku that she so kindly gave me. She was gifted in many ways, including her ability to be such an engaging conversationalist about an array of topics. Her demeanor was positively delightful. I am so grateful to have
known Nan. My deepest condolences to you and Nan's sisters.

I moved to Roanoke 15 years ago and began substitute teaching. The one time I was sent to WBMS, someone mentioned the librarian was Nan Fooks. What a wonderful surprise to find my favorite teacher/librarian from my high school in Charlottesville here in Roanoke! When I told my sister and brother, we all agreed that she was the absolute favorite teacher for all of us!
Nan was truly a wonderful person and a fantastic teacher, as the Bailey kids (Sally, George and myself) will attest, these 40 years later.
We are so very sorry for your loss Mr. Fooks.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Sabra Bailey Breslin

Nan was a wonderful librarian and teacher. She made the library a warm, welcoming place for students and teachers alike. No shushing from Nan; she actually wanted people to use the library and its resources. I am so glad she was at WBMS during my time there.

I was a student of Mrs. Fooks at WBMS in the nineties. She was my friend as well as teacher.
We would talk and she really understood me and that I was a child who was older in spirit than her years projected.
She nurtured my ability to write and sing and my love of literature.
I own an autoharp that belonged to Nan . What a wonderful gift for such an inspiring teacher to bestow upon her student.
I still have the sheet music she graciously printed out for me . Rock of ages is among the sheets of music she gave me.
I will remember her fondly for everything she taught me and most of all for the wonderful friend, mentor and light she became in my teenage world.
Rest peacefully. You were loved by many.

Dear Curtis and Nan's sisters: I knew Nan for about 10 years when I was living in Roanoke. She had such a big heart, and deep faith--truly a beautiful woman who embraced life with joy. My deepest sympathy to each of you. I believe your Nan is now watching over you from heaven, free of pain and full of life. You're in my heart and prayers.

Curtis and family, I taught with Nan for many years at WBMS. I am so sorry to learn of her passing. Nan knew I was a bear collector and after her mother passed, she gave me one of the bears that had belonged to her mom. I still have the bear and will continue to think of Nan every time I look at the bear. I feel I was blessed to know such a wonderful lady!!
