Obituary of Dorothy Jane Vass

Dorothy Jane Vass, 73 of Salem, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. She was preceded in death by her father, Buford Chester Akers, her mother, Dorothy Sink Akers, two sisters, Peggy Bryant and Linda May Weaver, and three brothers.

Mrs. Vass was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church in Salem, where she enjoyed being a part of the Musical Shares Choir and Ladies Fellowship Committee. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother sister, and friend who will be dearly missed by all.

She is survived by her loving husband, Roger G. Vass; her two sons, Glenn R. Vass (Sherry) and Buford C. Vass (Roni); two sisters, Joyce Clark (BJ) and Genevieve Grubb; one brother, Joel Akers (Shirley); and four grandchildren, Danielle, Austin, Katie Jane, and Colton Vass.

Family will receive friends Friday May 24, 2019 from 5:00-8:00pm at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke. A funeral service in her memory will be Saturday May 25, 2019 at 10:00am at Simpson Funeral Home with Pastor Garnett Westmoreland officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
