Marilyn Ann Laukaitis, 89, passed away May 21, 2019.

Born August 1, 1929, to Frank and Helen (Belles) Yuscavage in Pittston, PA, she raised her family in Harding, PA, and lived the last 35 years of her life in Roanoke, VA.

The granddaughter of Lithuanian immigrants, Marilyn devoted countless hours to serving refugees through Commonwealth Catholic Charities. She welcomed people in need from Vietnam, Liberia, Sudan and Burundi and helped them make a new home in the Roanoke area.

She radiated joy. Her life embodied the two great Christian commandments: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind; and love your neighbor as yourself.

Marilyn adored gardening and all animals, especially dogs. Throughout her life, she delighted in hosting large gatherings of family and friends with plenty of food, especially desserts.

She was predeceased by her cherished husband, Paul, of 52 years, and her beloved sister, Joan Gillis.

Surviving are her children Brenda Laukaitis Craine and her husband, Kimber, of Arlington, VA; Brett Laukaitis of Roanoke, VA; and Marsha Laukaitis of Clarks Summit, PA; her grandchildren Joshua P. Scripkunas and Jake Graziano; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Arlington, VA.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Roanoke Valley SPCA or Commonwealth Catholic Charities Refugee and Immigration Services.
