Evelyn B. Bauer (Canolia), 96, died peacefully on Monday, February 11, 2019 at her son and daughter-in-law's home in Roanoke, Va.  She was born in North Carolina on December 27, 1922 to the late John Lovett and Victoria Ballard Byrd.

Evelyn was devoted to her large family and many friends; she cherished each one of them.  During her 96 years, Evelyn was involved in many charitable events and volunteered for numerous organizations.  She was always ready to help when needed and never forgot to acknowledge special occasions in their lives.

She leaves behind her sons, John L. Sandy and wife Christine of John's Island, S.C., and Robert Sandy and his wife Doreen of Roanoke; grandchildren, Justin Sandy, Ellen Sandy, Patti Baringer, Greg Sandy, Steven Sandy, Ronnie Sandy, Traci Dobzanski, Laura Sandy, and Gary Sandy as well as many great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.

Evelyn was preceded in death by husband Lester Sandy, and her husband Elmer "Hank" Bauer; brothers, Travia Dallas Byrd, T. L. Byrd, Herbert Byrd, and grandson, John Sandy.

The family would like to thank all of the volunteers and staff from Carilion Clinic Hospice for all of their care and support through this difficult time.
