Obituary of Edwin Allen Myrick

Edwin Allen Myrick, 101, a resident of the Glebe, in Daleville, VA passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019.  Edwin was born on December 8, 1917, in Petersburg, VA and was the second son of the late Roy Myrick and Bertie Mae Myrick.   He graduated from Petersburg High School, as a member of the Class of 1934.  Edwin attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, where he attained a baccalaureate degree in chemical engineering, as a member of the Class of 1939.  He served as a Captain for 4 1/2 years in the U S Army Air Corps during World War II and later served, for an additional two years, in the U S Air Force, during the Korean conflict.  Between his Army Air Corps and Air Force service, he obtained his baccalaureate degree from the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy, as a member of the class of 1950.  He spent 28 years in the pharmacy business, in both Lynchburg and Vinton.

Edwin enjoyed playing bridge, reading the daily newspaper, following big league and college sports and traveling with his wife. 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death, in March 2017, by his beloved wife of 59 years, Lelia Wood Myrick, his brother, Roy Elliott Myrick, Jr. and his sister, Virginia May Myrick.

Surviving are his sister-in-law, Eliza Myrick of Petersburg, VA; and his nephew, Robert Allen Myrick of Colonial Heights, VA.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Glebe for the care they provided to both Edwin and Lelia in their later retirement years.  They would also like to give thanks to the staff of the Amedisys Hospice of Salem for the care they provided to both Edwin and Lelia in their final days.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Edwin's memory, to either Trinity Lutheran Church 4040 Williamson Road, Roanoke, VA  24012, or to the Roanoke Valley SPCA, 1340 Baldwin Ave. NE Roanoke, VA  24012.
