Obituary of Charles "Charlie" Leonard

Charles “Charlie” Leonard 71 of Bedford County went to be with the Lord on Sunday October 14, 2018. His parents, Mose E. and Clara St. Clair Leonard, 5 sisters, Mavis L. Dowell, Iris L. DeWease, Charlotte L. Brown, Barbara Hale, Martha R. Leonard and 2 brothers, Edward Leonard and Freeman O. Leonard preceded him.

Mr. Leonard served proudly in the United States Army where he did two tours during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired after many years as a HVAC Technician. Was a member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge in Vinton. He loved the outdoors, country music and his family. A very loving and caring father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed by all.

Surviving are his longtime partner, Ava Smith; children, Caron Trumbo and husband Tyler, Charlene Grasinger and husband Chris, and Charles “Zeke” Leonard Jr. and wife Erica; three grandchildren, McKinleigh, Charlotte, and Whit; three siblings, Elizabeth G. Leonard, Patricia G. Leonard, and Tony V. Leonard and wife Linda. Along with a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a Veterans Organization of your choice in his memory.

A memorial service will be held 7:00pm Wednesday October 17, 2018 in Simpson Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 5:00pm until service time at the funeral Wednesday.
