Obituary of James Randolph Cox
James Randolph Cox was born on April 7, 1938 in Baltimore, MD and passed away on September 19, 2018 in Roanoke, VA. Known as Jim, Jimmy, J.R. and Pop to his family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by Patricia, his wife of 56 years.
Jim is survived by his daughter Karen and her husband Sid, two grandchildren; Andrea and husband Keith and Jake and wife Dani. He was blessed with two great-grandsons in 2016; Jackson and Camdyn. Also surviving are his brother Carl Klein and family, sister-in-law Lois Klein and special friend Nina Dovell.
Jim proudly served his country as a United States Marine from 1957 to 1963. While serving, Jim received the Good Conduct Medal. After serving his country, Jim enjoyed a long and successful career in sales with Goldberg Company, Inc. and Ferguson’s Enterprises until his retirement.
Jim devoted countless hours to his commitment to the Better Business Bureau, March of Dimes and the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association. In 2015, Jim was inducted into the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association Hall of Fame for his never-ending service. When asked to serve, his response was always yes with active participation on committees or in meetings. Service to family, friends, community and country defined this man.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Semper Fi Fund or Ronald McDonald House charities.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 21, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Simpson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Troy Mays officiating. Interment will be private at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery.
