Obituary of Doris Brown Mitchell

Doris Brown Mitchell, 91, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 16, 2018. This wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend loved the Lord and passionately shared the Gospel with others. Her bright blue eyes, warm smile and words of encouragement will be truly missed.

Doris grew up on a farm in Franklin County Virginia, and then moved to High Point, North Carolina to work in the War Dept. She met her husband, James, in High Point and lived there until about 3 years ago when she moved to Roanoke, VA to be closer to family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James B Mitchell; daughter, Patricia M. Ring, and sisters/brothers Melva Brown, Hattie Blankenship, Mary Lovelace, Irene Simmons, and William Brown.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law James and Nancy Mitchell; daughter and son-in-law Jeanne and Don Woodward; grandchildren Gavin Mitchell, Savannah Bowman, Barrett Mitchell, Sarah Hernandez and Mitchell Woodward; great grandchildren Sawyer Bowman, Maya Hernandez, Fletcher Bowman, and Nora Mitchell; and sisters Louise Wagner and Betty Clark.

Visitation will be held at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24019 on Sunday, August 19 from 2 – 4 pm. Following the visitation a memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm.

She will then be transferred to Floral Garden Park Cemetery 1730 W. English Road, High Point NC 27262 for burial on Monday, August 20^th at 12 noon.
