Obituary of Barbara Hendrick Witt

Barbara Hendrick Witt, 86, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 1, 2018.  She was preceded by her parents, Thurston W. and Ruth Tosh Hendrick, and her brothers and sisters.

Barbara was a lifelong member of Melrose Presbyterian Church which later became Westminster Presbyterian Church.  There she and her future husband were on the Cradle Roll together.   She was active in the youth organization, Christian Endeavor,  later was active in the women’s circle,  women in the church and from 1957 into the 1980’s she volunteered on the Nursery Committee.

She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1950 where she played basketball, volleyball and softball.  As a young adult she worked at Eaton Yale and Towne in Salem, Carter Machinery, and the Roanoke Housing Administration.  The most important job she held was that of being a Wife, Mother and Grandmother.

Surviving are her husband, C. J. “Doodle” Witt; sons, Steven C. Witt and wife Linda, David A. Witt and wife Jackie White; grandchildren, Christine Gibson and husband Daniel, Karl Witt and wife Kimberly; great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Caleb, Ruth and Micah.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff in the Progressive Care Unit on the 3rd Floor at Lewis Gale Hospital for their many acts of kindness and compassion.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2018 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road.  Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Simpson Funeral Home.  366-0707
